The Volvo Ocean’s Race’s Team Vestas 11th Hour Racing had a 3rd place finish in the unpredictable, 5700 nm Leg 8 from Itajai to Newport, RI. The crew recovered an eventful broken mast on Leg 7 in the Faukland Islands, before moving to their stopover in Brazil.
They were quickly reminded why they are 1 of 2 boats hoping to bring more attention to ocean plastic pollution, when the rudder was bogged down with debris. Sharing some common coaches with their Foundation cousins, Team Vestas will be eagerly greeted in their hometown by Warrior Sailors for stopover festivities.
