August 19th was the Sachem’s Head Coastal Classic regatta. Hosted by Sachem Head Yacht Club in Connecticut, this 20 mile distance race had a strong fleet of 42 boats sailing in 5 different classes. Participating in the inaugural race was George Collins, Owner of Chessie Racing, a Tripp designed 62′ racing yacht.

George and his wife have been long time USMMA Sailing Foundation supporters, and invited Warrior Sailor, Dave Caras and program director, Ben Poucher, along for the day race in Long Island Sound. Mr. Collins has had a series of racing yachts with the name Chessie Racing, but the most famous of his boats raced in the Whitbread round the world race in 1997-1998. Warrior Sailing coach and founder of Warrior Sailing Canada, Dave Scott sailed aboard. Racing in 10-16 knots of breeze allowed for the 62′ yacht to finish 3rd place in their division. Keep an eye out for more support and warriors on the water near the Sachem Head Yacht Club in the spring and summer of 2018.
