The National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic offers adventure sports and recreational activities to those who were recently injured veterans. Warrior Sailing is privileged to be the provider of sailing activities during the 2017 event in San Diego. Sailing out of the Navy MWR in Fiddler’s Cove, the coaches, staff and volunteers make this a wonderful one day experience for the veterans that try sailing for their first time.
This year, Chuck Miller, Warrior Sailing graduate of the keelboat certification program, was on hand as a program ambassador and shared his experiences from losing his sight to sailing with our program. During this week-long event from September 17-21, we welcomed nearly 90 veterans to the sport of sailing. As a result, we have seen a major spike in applications for future Warrior Sailing training camps and look forward to continuing to partner with the VA Adaptive Sports Office to support this clinic for many years to come.
To sum up the event, participant, Al says, “Woohoo! We’re sailing!”
