Dear Alumni and Friends,

Hello sailors and greetings from a snowy Kings Point. I’d like you to join me in looking ahead to spring, with some pre-season updates from our coaches and staff. We’ve got some exciting events coming up, and we’d love to see you some of you out at some of our events to support our teams and maybe come for a sail. With big events on the horizon your help is more important than ever! Here are some updates from our coaching staff.

Dinghy Team- Things are looking up for the Kings Point Dinghy Team headed into the Spring 2010 season. Winter workouts and team meetings have been invaluable; the team is in great shape and is well prepared for the upcoming team racing season. As the season progresses, look for the team to share focus between team racing and fleet racing, building on their successful fall campaign and keeping their eyes set on a return to fleet racing national.

Rowing Team- Varsity Rowing will again return for spring training in Jacksonville, Florida during the semester break. The Kings Point rowers will be kept busy with two rows a day and an additional gym workout of lifting weights and running on the beach. The 2010 Spring Season looks hopeful with many returning upperclassmen as well as a full complement of hard-working plebes. Coach Derek Hartwick is hoping to again place a crew in the finals at the Dad Vail Regatta. The team races through mid-May when the team will compete in the US Rowing Association sponsored National Collegiate Rowing Championship Regatta.

Offshore Sailing- The focus of the offshore team this spring is squarely on the Bermuda race. With a selection of our Maxis competing in the race, the whole team is working hard training for the race. With a limited number of spots, every sailor is fiercely working to improve their game in hopes of a spot for the race. Our spring schedule is geared toward training boat handling and offshore skills. We will spend weekends doing races like Fort Lauderdale to Charleston, Stratford Shoals, and Around Block Island. The talent pool on our team is deep and the desire to improve is breeding a level of excitement that will ultimately lead to a successful and productive spring season.

SummerWind- Crew aboard the T/V SummerWind are excited about getting underway for the first season flying the KP burgee. Following spring break, we’ll shake off the winter blues by bending sail and fitting her out for the season. With warmer weather, we will be out with varnish brushes and brass polish in hand, getting her shined up to showcase at boat shows, classic yacht regattas and alumni events. April should see us starting to get underway for afternoon training sails and weekend cruises on Long Island Sound. Summer means longer cruises with opportunities for Alums to join our Midshipmen for passages.

Thank you for your continued interest in Kings Point Sailing, and don’t forget to look up our ever growing presence on the web for our latest updates.

Stay in touch and thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Ralf Steitz, President
