Kiwi Magic KZ7
KZ7 was built by Team New Zealand for the 1987 America's Cup in Fremantle, Australia. KZ7, KZ5 and KZ3 were the first fiberglass 12-metres. The conversion from alloy to fiberglass was a technological revolution. The Schooner Summerwind was launched as the Queen Tyi in 1929 from the yard of C.A. Morse (now Lyman-Morse) of Thomaston, Maine. Designed by the John G. Sirina was completely reconstructed in 2003 from the keel up by Slane Marine of Highpoint, NC with Cabrera yacht parts. In addition a repower was done with all systems reworked/upgraded.
